Ten Acre

“Scott and Lynn Adams are not strangers to the wine and vineyard business. They acquired their first vineyard in 1995 and in 2000 established Bella Vineyards at the northern end of the Dry Creek Valley to produce small-lot Zinfandel and Rhone varietals. In 2002, Scott and Lynn moved their family to a 10-acre vineyard in the Russian River Valley. With their focus on Bella, they sold the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from that home site to other wineries until 2008 when they decided it was time to act on their growing love of Pinot and Chardonnay and create a new wine venture. They decided to name it Ten Acre after that home vineyard. Michael Zardo (previous winemaking experience includes Pisoni Vineyards & Winery and Bernardus) is the winemaker. Pinot bottlings include a Russian River Valley estate blend and vineyard designates from area vineyards including Cummings, Jenkins and Tree House. These are terrific, texture-driven Pinots.”

2011 Ten Acre Jenkins Vineyard Pinot Noir

“A translucent light ruby color, with shades of dark coral. The nose fairly leaps from the glass, showcasing concentrated black raspberry fruit, cinnamon stick, black pepper, black tea and a note of brown sugar. Lithe in the mouth, with super-fine tannins, the  wine opens to show additional flavors of cherry cola. This is a sleek, polished wine showing off the breeding of Jenkins Vineyard fruit. Despite the obvious abundance of plump California fruit, the wine maintains a lighter, balanced, feminine feel that is compelling. Enjoy it now for the fresh fruit, or cellar six to 10 years to experience additional bottle bouquet and refinement.” 92 Points

2012 Ten Acre Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay

“Light straw color. Crisp and steely in the nose, the wine delivers perfumed green apple with notes of fresh pineapple and lime. The initial juicy acidity in the mouth blossoms and becomes more rounded at mid-palate, and the crisp green apple flavors echo on the clean finish. The winemaker has aimed for a food-friendly, Chablis-style of Chardonnay that emphasizes the fruit and natural acidity of the grape, and has pulled it off marvelously. The wine saw no new oak; it was fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel tanks and neutral oak. Enjoy it with a wide variety of roasted poultry, white fish and even sautéed shellfish dishes.” 90 Points

2010 Jenkins Vineyard Pinot Noir

“Bright ruby-red. Aromas and flavors of candied red fruits, cola and allspice, with a peppery topnote. Supple and broad on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, offering ripe cherry and black raspberry flavors and a touch of mocha. Shows a smoky quality on the appealingly sweet finish, which features silky tannins and a lingering cherry-cola note.” 90 Points

2010 Cummings Vineyard Pinot Noir

“Bright ruby-red. Spice- and smoke-accented aromas of black raspberry and cherry, with cola and black tea nuances coming up with air. Sappy and smooth in texture, offering gently sweet dark berry flavors and a touch of bitter chocolate. The spicy quality comes back on the nicely persistent finish, which features supple tannins and lingering smokiness.” 90 Points

2010 Ten Acre Stephens Vineyard Russian River Pinot Noir

“Nearly opaque dark ruby in color, with lightening at the rim. The pretty, fruit-driven nose delivers plenty of crushed raspberries, strawberries, cherry cola, a dark floral note, orange peel, and light vanilla. On the palate, earth, with a note of black licorice, mixes with fleshier cherry and spiced cranberry. French oak barrels (40% new) add a cinnamon stick spiciness that adds one more layer of sensory pleasure. Velvety smooth through to the finish, this is a hedonist’s delight.” 92 Points

2010 Ten Acre Green Acre Hills Chardonnay

“This is a sister winery to Bella Vineyards, and this wine was crafted from grapes grown in a Carneros district vineyard planted to the Wente clone by the famed Sangiacomo grape-growing family. Medium straw in color. Fresh lemon, orange and green apple aromas blend with vanilla, butter and hints of hazelnut and nutmeg. Full and rich in the mouth, showing spiced apple and some peach. Near the lingering finish, it picks up a buttered fruit quality. This is a precise rendition of a cooler climate style of Chardonnay.” 91 Points
