Clones: old Wente clone
Planted: 1991
Soil: Silty clay loam
Yield: 4.0 tons per acre
Grower: Michael Sangiacomo

This vineyard is owned by the Sangiacomo family, and is farmed by brothers Michael and Steve Sangiacomo—the third generation of this highly respected winegrowing family to farm in Sonoma County. The site is located in the Carneros appellation, which overlaps the Sonoma Coast appellation. This area is particularly well suited for growing exceptional chardonnay, having both a cool climate and well-drained soils. The Green Acres Hill block was planted to the Sangiacomo-Wente selection in 1991 and utilizes VSP trellising. The vineyard’s rocky, well-drained soils are reminiscent of those from Burgundy. These shallow soils keep vine vigor in check and produce low yields of less than 7 pounds per vine.
